Brightburn was announced as Untitled James Gunn Horror Project in December 2017. Aside from Gunn producing the film, his cousin Mark and brother Brian Gunn wrote the screenplay. Principal photography began in March 2018 and wrapped in May of that same year. It adapts the concept of Superman for explicit horror.

Producers Eric Newman and Marc Abraham developed the film rather as a "re-envisioning" of the original Dawn of the Dead, aiming to reinvigorate the zombie genre for modern audiences. Newman and Abraham were handed the rights to the original courtesy of its producer and rights holder Richard P. Rubinstein; and then Gunn was brought in to write the script, borrowing the original's basic premise and updating it with a storyline that is more action-oriented. Snyder came on board to direct with a goal of keeping every aspect of the production as grounded in reality as possible. Filming took place from June 9 to September 6 of 2003, on location in Toronto, Canada where a now-defunct shopping mall that was slated for demolition was used. The special makeup effects for the film were created by David LeRoy Anderson.

About : Shaun of the Dead is a 2004 horror comedy film directed by Edgar Wright. The film was written by Wright and Simon Pegg, who stars in it as Shaun. Along with friend Ed, played by Nick Frost, Shaun is caught unaware by the zombie apocalypse; they attempt to take refuge in a local pub with their loved ones. The film developed from ideas Pegg and Wright used for their television series Spaced, particularly an episode where Pegg's slacker character hallucinates a zombie invasion. The title and plot also refer to the Dead films directed by George A. Romero. Principal photography took place across London and at Ealing Studios between May and June 2003.

The film was announced in 2007, but spent several years in development hell at Warner Bros. before having the rights bought by Netflix in 2019. Snyder was announced as director, and the cast joined over the next several months. Filming began in July 2019, taking place in Los Angeles, New Mexico, and New Jersey, including at the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel. Chris D'Elia was originally cast in the film, but after several sexual misconduct accusations were made against him in August 2020, Tig Notaro was hired to replace his character and reshot his scenes using green screen and body doubles.

Back in the Warden's office, Bill receives a mysterious package, which is revealed to contain a jar of specially imported, dried African clitorises which he eats "for strength." After eating a few, he receives a threatening prank phone call from one of the inmates (Jay Tavare). Bill waterboards him with three buckets of boiling water, horribly disfiguring him. Governor Hughes (Eric Roberts) arrives immediately afterwards, ordering Bill and Dwight to put a stop to the violence and promising that they will both be fired otherwise. In anger and retaliation, Bill orders a 'mass castration' of the inmates, and castrates one of the prisoners (Robert LaSardo) himself, then cooking and eating the testicles for "Energy food."
Finally, Dwight is able to pitch his idea to Bill, where he suggests that all of the inmates are sutured together mouth-to-anus, forming a giant human centipede, which would deter anyone considering a life of crime. Bill is skeptical and opposed to the idea. Bill then has a nightmare about being attacked by inmates, and being raped in the kidney by the inmate he castrated. Bill then summons the director himself, Tom Six, to the prison. Bill is assured that the films are "100% medically accurate." Six gives the prison permission to use his Centipede idea, provided that he is permitted to witness the operation. The first two films are then shown to the inmates as a display of their future. This causes a riot, which allows inmates to chase Bill and Dwight to the wardens office, where they beat his assistant Daisy (Bree Olson) unconscious.
Bill then goes around each cell and shoots every inmate with tranquilizers, readying them for the operation. Incompatible inmates, such as one with a stoma, and one with a disability are shot and killed. They also discover an inmate with Crohn's disease, who suffers from severe diarrhea. Bill orders the man who raped him in a dream to be attached to him as an added punishment. Daisy is revealed to be in a coma, where she is raped by Bill. Six returns to the prison, where he is met by Bill and Dwight. After touring the cells, they discover a mentally unstable inmate eating his own feces wanting to be sewn to the centipede. In response, Bill shoots and kills the inmate. Death row inmates are discovered being dismembered for a "special project."
Upon the centipede's completion, Governor Hughes arrives disgusted at what he sees. In addition to the centipede, a 'Human Caterpillar,' has been created for inmates serving life sentences. It is also revealed that Daisy has accidentally been sewn into the Centipede. Hughes leaves the prison, telling Dwight and Bill they should receive the death sentence.
Hughes then returns to prison with a sudden change of heart, stating that the Centipede punishment is "exactly what America needs." The film ends with Dwight and Bill celebrating their success. Dwight is then shot and killed for trying to take credit for the idea. The final scene is of Bill screaming with joy overlooking the centipede while "The Star-Spangled Banner" plays.
The Human Centipede 2 (First Sequence) English Substitles
After Lindsay tries to escape and fails, Heiter decides to make her the middle part of the centipede, the most painful position. Heiter performs the surgery, placing Katsuro at the lead, Lindsay at the middle and Jenny at the rear. He removes the front teeth of both women and mutilates the buttocks of Katsuro and Lindsay to provide access to the rectums, to which he grafts their mouths. He severs the ligaments of his victims' knees to prevent leg extension, forcing his victims to crawl. Each victim in the centipede is half-naked, where Katsuro and Lindsay are provided bottoms covered in bandages for healing purposes while Jenny is provided with underwear. All three segments' knees are bandaged for healing and for them to be able to crawl. Lindsay is joined with a strip of bandage to the buttocks of Katsuro and Jenny is joined with a strip of bandage to the buttocks of Lindsay, joining their heads to the anus of the person in front of them.
Once the operation is complete, Heiter is delighted with his creation and takes the centipede to his living room to wake each segment of the centipede up, takes photos of each of them, and even passes a mirror around for the segments of the centipede to marvel at their new form. Heiter attempts to train his centipede as a pet by caging the centipede in a dog kennel, letting Katsuro eat dog food at dinner, and often belittling Katsuro with racist insults and beating him with a crop when he becomes rebellious. When Katsuro defecates, Lindsay is forced to swallow his excrement while the doctor watches in delight. However, he eventually becomes irritated after being kept awake by the constant screaming of a caged Katsuro (who, as the front part of the centipede, has his mouth free and is still able to speak) and by the constant moaning of the women. When the centipede attempts to escape while Heiter is swimming, all three segments of the centipede are beaten with the crop. Heiter is displeased with the realization that Lindsay is constipated. He proposes that he will use laxatives on Lindsay, so that she will defecate into Jenny's mouth and thus progress towards the final stage of the centipede's digestion chain. However, before he can do this, he discovers that Jenny is dying from sepsis during a checkup.
When two detectives, Kranz (Andreas Leupold) and Voller (Peter Blankenstein), visit the house to investigate the disappearance of the tourists, Heiter comes up with an idea to add them as replacements for Jenny in a new creation; a four-segment centipede. He offers the two detectives water spiked with sedatives in hopes of knocking the two unconscious. After being given the water, the detectives become suspicious and obtain a search warrant for his home.
When the detectives leave Heiter's home, the victims attempt to escape. Katsuro attacks Heiter in the process. Their attempt to escape ultimately fails. Katsuro confesses to the doctor that he deserves his fate because he had treated his own family poorly, then takes his own life by slitting his throat with a glass shard.
Upon returning to Heiter's home, the detectives forcefully conduct separate searches as Heiter, injured, hides near his swimming pool. Kranz finds the ward along with Heiter's victims. Voller begins to feel ill from the earlier drugging, and Heiter stabs him with the scalpel pulled from his leg during Katsuro's attack. Upon finding Voller dead, Kranz is shot by Heiter with Voller's sidearm. Kranz responds by shooting Heiter in the head before dying. Back in the house, Jenny and Lindsay hold hands as Jenny dies. Lindsay sobs as she is left alone in the house, trapped between her deceased fellow captives. Her fate is left unknown. The film ends with the sounds of her sobbing while the camera pans to the roof of the house.
